However, she isn't able to be happy about his demise. Turkel was born to the midst of a Jewish family, and was raised by her mother in Manhattan. Also, she performed in a season of summer stock theatre in the Berkshire Playhouse in Stockbridge, Massachusetts with plays such as The Pajama Game" and West Side Story. It was while performing with her band at an event for fashion when Ann was discovered to Gloria Schiff an editor at Vogue Magazine. Diana Vreeland, the editor in chief of Vogue Magazine, had Ann shoot her first Vogue magazine cover within two days. Ann went on to become one of the most well-known American models, working as a cover model for top magazines like Vogue Bazaar or Cosmopolitan. Ann made her international debut in Europe and Japan as a model on behalf of Max Factor Revlon.
